Cake Pops and a Paper Party!

Well hello there! What a whirlwind couple of weeks it's been. I hope you all had a fabulous and delicious Thanksgiving. And now look...we're already halfway to Christmas! I've been up to a lot of fun since my last post and I am so excited to tell you about it!
A few days after Thanksgiving, Peter and I traveled back to my hometown of Bethesda, Maryland, located just outside of Washington, DC, to visit my good friend Claudia of Fig. 2 Design Studio and Figure A Design, Inc. You may remember that Claudia redesigned my blog earlier this year. Claudia is also a very talented stationery designer and on December 4th, she hosted an Open House "paper party" to showcase and sell a variety of products featuring her latest stationery designs.
When Claudia first told me that she was thinking of hosting an Open House, I told her that I would be more than happy to travel up to Maryland to help cook or bake, and I was flattered when she took me up on my offer. Several weeks before our trip to the East Coast, Claudia and I had many fun and often hilarious iChats together to brainstorm food ideas for her party. Since she decided to host her party in the afternoon, she wanted to serve some light nibbles along with some sweet items. Claudia had come across Bakerella and asked me if making Angie's adorable confections was feasible given the two days we had to prepare. I had never made cake pops before, so after carefully reading several posts, I felt confident that these would not only be a cinch to make, but totally fun. Now, I know that you aren't supposed to try new recipes or techniques before hosting a houseful of guests, but Angie explains the cake pop-making process so well in her blog, that I knew they would turn out beautifully. And they did! As you can see from the pictures above, I coated the cake pops in an assortment of red, orange and pink candy coating and then topped each one with nonpareil sprinkles. They were so festive!
In the days leading up to our trip up to Maryland, Claudia and I continued to iChat and we hammered out detail after detail to make sure we had thought about all the necessary logistics. We always joke and refer to ourselves as OCD detail-obsessed gals, but it isn't far from the truth! Claudia and I weren't surprised at how well we work together and all of our planning and detail obsessing paid off in a fun party that everyone enjoyed and the cake pops were a delicious hit! To learn how to make cake pops, visit Angie's sweet blog, Bakerella. Here are a few pictures from our fun weekend:

Claudia's beautiful table setting. Her party's theme colors were red, pink and orange.

Claudia made tissue paper pom-poms to suspend from the ceiling around her living and dining rooms. They were so festive and fun (and easy to make, I found out)!
