Arrivederci!

In just a few hours, Peter and I will be on a plane bound for Rome, and we couldn't be more excited!  It's been nine years since we've been back to Italy, so a trip back is long overdue.  I have been traveling to Italy to visit my relatives ever since I was a year old, so Italy is like my second home.  Rome is particularly special to me because it's where my late Nonna Liliana's family lives.  I am so excited to see my great-aunts and all of my cousins.  There will no doubt be lots of talking, laughing, reminiscing and an abundance of spectacular food.  All of my great-aunts are excellent home cooks, and I'm planning on putting my new dSLR to good use in their kitchens.  I've also made sure to pack a notebook to jot down some of their recips so I can recreate them when I come back home and share them with you here.

Many people who travel to Rome make it a point to visit sites like the Spanish Steps, Roman Forum and Colosseum, and while we'll be visiting those places again, we're also planning on visiting as many of Rome's pasticcerie {pastry shops}, panifici {bakeries}, and gelaterie {ice cream shops} as we possibly can.  Most of the best places to eat in Rome are the small, family-owned establishments found down quiet side streets like the one you see in the picture above.  I'm already dreaming of eating pizza bianca, suppli al telefono, and bucatini cacio e pepe.  It's going to be a delicious trip.

Rest assured that Flavia's Flavors will not sit idle while we are eating our way across Rome.  Two sweet blogging friends kindly offered to write guest posts, so be sure to check back--you won't want to miss them!  And heaven forbid that I go into iPhone withdrawal--I'm bringing my smartphone with me so I can still post to Twitter and the Flavia's Flavors Facebook page...barring any technical difficulties {banish the thought!}.

Arrivederci! See you soon!
