Buon giorno friends! I made myself crespelle for breakfast. It’s a recipe I will eventually be sharing on my blog.

Flavia’s Flavors went quiet last year due to major technical problems that didn’t allow me to access my blog (thanks for nothing, internet service provider🤬) and because we had to shift gears as a family to care for my late mother-in-law as her health rapidly declined.

I just now feel like I’m coming up for air. 😮‍💨 But some days the mental exhaustion is still so hard and it becomes discouraging when it looks like everyone else is keeping up with technology, blogging, life, and social media (which I know is a total myth, but still). I’m working on tuning out the “noise” and the (loud) voice in my head that sometimes screams at me to compare myself to others.

Right now, I need to simply get caught up…on rest, on self care, on household things, on paperwork, on reading…the list goes on. Where my blog fits into this I don’t yet know but it will fit in somewhere.

Buon Anno! Happy New Year, friends! I know it’s been very quiet around here for a while, but I’m working on making my way back. Last year my blog went silent because I had persistent technological problems with our internet service provider. 😡 We finally switched and I’m now able to access my blog (finally)! 🥳 I’m working on preparing new content for you, and getting back to writing my newsletter. In the meantime I want to welcome my new followers and thank all of you for staying with me despite the stretches of silence here. Sometimes Life Things take precedence and the blog and social media take a back seat. It will be lovely to get back into a routine again now that the holiday season is winding down. I am looking forward to sharing more Italian recipes with you in 2022! If you have any special requests, let me know in the comments! I love having conversations about food and cooking with you! Meet my great-aunt “zia” Diana. She lives in O

Meet my great-aunt “zia” Diana. She lives in Ostia (a suburb of Rome). She is the wife of my late maternal great-uncle Mario, and she is the absolute sweetest person. I love that I grew up knowing her and all my maternal great-aunts in Italy. She just recently joined Facebook! Zia Diana is a phenomenal self-taught home cook. Today, on the feast of Santo Stefano (Saint Stephen), she made homemade farfalle 🦋 pasta and rolled out the “sfoglia” (pasta dough) by hand. I love and miss her so much.❤️ Also, can we take a moment to admire how classy my Zia is? She always has her hair done beautifully and is never without lipstick, or jewelry. And her apron matches her sweater. Nonna goals right here!

Yesterday I made @italyonmymind Lemon Taralli for the first time. I have been meaning to make them for ages and am glad I finally did!

They are incredibly easy to make and no equipment is required (except for a kitchen scale). The fragrant, lemon-scented dough comes together in just a couple of bowls. Shaping them into plump rings was relaxing and meditative. The only hard part was waiting for the icing to firm up before I could taste one! But it was well worth the wait! They’re the perfect cookie for a cookie platter, or to have on hand to enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea.
